You can place the gate from E first, but I recommend shooting Q first then instantly placing E infront of it to make it less predictable for your enemies when you shoot at them so they can't hide behind minions. In either form, Q is your most important spell and in ranged form very important is that you empower your shot with the E by placing it infront of the shot. I recommend mostly using the ranged form for safety, but switch to melee when you want to finish a target. Jayce is somewhat tricky to learn since he has 6 abilities instead of the usual 4 and starts with "Ulti" aka R or 4th spell unlocked to change his fighting style. Top and Mid usually play alone and Jayce is good at that since he can destroy waves from far and clear them fast when your opponent isn't close. Mostly played in Top lane, but can be played in mid or bot (bottom lane) roles too. Focusing on your own game is the most important thing you can do. If you notice yourself talking way too much or get annoyed by someone every game you can permanently toggle both all chat and allied chat off in options before even joining game or by typing /mute all in-game. So if anyone pisses you off, don't write back to them and just mute them, it's better for everyone that way. Not absolutely everyone in league is toxic, but very large part of it is and it's very important that you personally stay focused in the game, not the chat. Then to address the elephant in the room. You shouldn't fight a lot before you have at least 1 or 2 completed "major" items.
By staying alive you get experience from just staying near dying enemy minions which makes your character much stronger than any item you can buy and by staying alive you can farm those minions for gold, early on you should mostly focus on killing minions instead of players because the faster you get your items the stronger you will be, and killing minions gives much more gold during the whole game than few champion kills. Then before you jump in the game, the most important tip I can give you: DON'T DIE. Eventually you'll want to learn more than single item build, based on who you are fighting against, but it's again not important at the start.

Blitz I used years ago, but it has crashed on me few times and was really heavy for my PC at one point so I stopped using it. I personally use Mobalytics because it's least heavy for my PC's performance, but I've heard a lot of positive about Poroffesor. There's 3 that I know personally: Mobalytics, Blitz app and Poroffesor.
The game can be very overwhelming at first, so to make it easier for yourself I first recommend downloading an app that recommends you runes, summoner spells and item builds so you don't have to start the game by reading million guides first and can just jump straight in.
